"Hailing from Madison, WI, Midas Bison is the moniker of Sidney Johnson, a former University of Oregon English major and full-time bedroom dreamer. His latest EP, “Flora,” has garnered a small but dedicated fan base, and his one-off songs like “Grandparents,” “Party/Weekends,” and “Quality, Fast!” are catchy, delicious morsels of postmodern pop. Johson’s music is hard to pinpoint, and that’s exactly how he wants it. For some tracks, such as “Grandparents,” the reverb-drenched piano and lonely ambiance nods to post-dubstep artists like Burial and James Blake, while the goofy verbosity of “Party/Weekends” and “Quality, Fast!” could sit comfortably next to Yoni Wolf’s work with Why? You’re not exactly sure what you’re going to get with a new Midas Bison track: it could be the spacey, sexy minimalist pop of The xx or frenetic math-rock of Battles, the summer jams of Washed Out or the schizophrenic experiments of Animal Collective."
