About

LP was born on the 24th of December 1987. His Real Name is Ivan Kiyimba.

He’s always had the love for music ever since his days in Primary School. His first real Rap icon was Will Smith. Along the way he took keen interest in artistes like P.Diddy, Notorious B.I.G, 2Pac, Nas, Mase, Snoop Dogg, Dr.Dre, Coolio, LL Cool J and Eminem. He used to memorise most of their rhymes from their hit songs and he always tried to imagine he was the one doing their songs. Later on, around the time he joined Busoga College Mwiri, he was introduced to Jay-Z and from that time on he fell madly in love wit Hip-hop Music. He is one of those rappers whose Punch lines always stood out from the rest for him. Even though by then he didn’t know what a Punch line was, he knew there was something unique about Jay-Z’s rap lines. With that in mind, he knew if he ever got the chance to rap, he wanted his rap lines to be unique too.  The real musical journey started when he got in to Busoga College Mwiri. He started out as a Break Dancer dancer in his S.1 but by the time he was in S.3, he was miming Hip-hop joints on Stage. He once did ‘Stunt 101’ by G-Unit with a couple of friends, ‘Poppin’ em Thangs’, ‘New York’ and his best solo then was Navio’s ‘Rukus’ Feat. Peter Miles. He’s got alot of respect for Navio because when he started writing his own rap lines 5 years ago, locally he was his inspiration. His other inspiration locally back then was Lyrical G. It was during his Senior Four Vacation holiday when he seriously started writing full songs and when he went back to Bosoga College Mwiri for his A-Level it got even more intense because he performed some of them and he got positive feedback from whatever crowd he performed for. His friends back then always told him he had the talent to make it Big. It’s funny how he doesn’t remember ever getting any real negative criticism. This only pushed him to write even more even though he knew he was just doing it for fun and for the love. At that time he’d teamed up with another talented Rapper/Producer currently in Germany right now called PLAY-01 a.k.a Jacob Kisubi. PLAY-01 had just finished his High School education from Kiira College Butiki. LP’s stage name then was ‘Ephective’, which he later switched to ‘L-MON’(Lyrikal Monster) and then to ‘Lyrikal Proof’ a.k.a ‘PromKing’ which he uses now. LP & PLAY-01 had agreed to hit the scene after their A-Level education but PLAY-01 later flew to South Africa after which he settled in Germany for his University Education. LP did not give it all up, the real Testament came in 2007 when he took part in a Rap Battle at Sabrina’s Pub that had been organized by Sol Dre, a local Music Promoter. He happened to be the second that day out of more than 30 MCs and from then on he decided to take Hip-hop and Rap seriously. After that battle, a Producer/Rapper called Die-Sko saw the talent he had and told him he could record a song for him for free at his B.T.G (Bless The Ghetto) Studios in Kireka. LP accepted the offer and this saw the birth of his first ever studio recorded song titled ‘Can you hear me’. It’s a song telling a story about two young people, a boy and a girl, who contract HIV at a young age not because they wanted, but because of the pressure and naivety. Early in 2008, he took part in another Rap Battle organized by Hot100 F.M and MTN and in that particular rap Battle, King Arthur turned out to be the winner. Ironically, King Arthur and LP later hooked up to form a Crew known as the Versatile Music Group (V.M.G). It was King Arthur who introduced LP to Harris from Live Wire Records and together with Konjo MC they formed the Group. With the help of Producers Martin and Michael, V.M.G recorded three songs of which one of them called ‘Good girl gone bad’ got fair airplay on Hot100 F.M. They were then invited by Mackenzie to the Morning Saturday show for an Interview and they got positive reviews from the listeners. After that LP went back to studio on a solo journey. Together with Martin at BAVA Studios, he decided to invest time and money into a demo compilation. He had already recorded three solo songs at Live Wire Records and these were ‘She’s Amazing’ Featuring Harris, ‘Don’t Hold it Back’ and ‘Can You Hear Me’ which he re-did in a different way from the original he had recorded at B.T.G. ‘She’s Amazing’ actually got a lot of air play on Hot100 F.M. At BAVA Studios he did tracks like ‘Game Over’ Featuring GNL, ‘Alone 2008’ Featuring Tracey which happens to be a Hip-hop remix of Philly Lutaya’s ‘Alone’, ‘Real Talk’, ‘30 Minutes’, ‘You Know’ Featuring Tracey and ‘Smile’ produced by Aethan from Muddy Boots Studios. After the tracks were ready LP put them all on one Demo CD called ‘STREET RELEASE-THE DEMO’. He took the CD to Mckenzie at Hot100 F.M and right there and then, he told him he wanted him on a Solo Interview. During the Interview Mckenzie premiered like five songs off the CD and before LP knew it, three weeks later he was the third top most emcee out of five for that Month. I was third to GNL and Navio who were first and second respectively. A week later ‘Smile’ premiered at No.25 on the Hot Joints Countdown on Hot100 and started climbing steadily. ‘Smile’ was such a Hit that LP hooked up with a couple of other tight MCs in the City to do a Remix. These were, Young Nick, Lil’ Diamond, TOP.I.K MC. & Mckenzie. He later hooked up with Young Nick to do a collabo called ‘Whoosh’ as it had always been his dream. To sum up the Collaborations on ‘STREET RELEASE’, he hooked up with R.U.G.G and Don’ MC and another massive joint titled ‘Hands Up’ was put out. So far, LP has had over 3 joints on Local Countdowns and recently and he is soon settling down to Record his Official Album. He is currently not with V.M.G anymore, he’s got his own Crew called 3RD ROUND. Currently it consists of  TOP.I.K MC, with whom he’s done two collabos, Tracey, an upcoming Diva and J-PAC, an aspiring Hip-Hop & RnB Producer.

LP’s first real stage performance as an artiste was at the SONIC SHAMES concert which was held at Sabrina’s Pub. He’s also performed at Club Sway, Four times at the WAPI shows that are always held at Hotel Africana and he’s also been to High Schools.

In Uganda LP’s favourite Hip-hop artistes are Navio, Tha Mith, GNL, J.T, R.U.G.G and Young Nick. He thinks they are the core of what Real Hip-hop should be. On the East African scene Bamboo, Professor Jay and Mwana FA are his favourites. On the African Scene, he looks up to Naeto-C, Da LES, Proverb & HHP.
