“Many of Multz's songs are ballads, and he likes to have storylines in his music. "The ‘Holy Santos Gang' is a song I wrote," says Multz. "It's a long ballad about a band of brothers who are getting their brother out of jail and heading for the border." His songwriting has changed somewhat now that he's with a band. Multz works with the rest of the band to finish developing a song, and because of that piecing-together process, songs "don't always sound like I [first] intend" says Multz. "Even if I write a sad slow song it could turn out to be a rock ballad." Over time he says he's also gotten better at editing his songs. "I put a lot of weight in lyrics," he says "That's important to me and the band." Though many of his songs are in ballad form, he writes about a range of subjects. "I used to try and avoid writing love songs, but it's kind of unavoidable," he says.”
