"One of the best blends of global funky elements we've ever heard...Great stuff all around, and a record that's almost more funkily exciting than all those old Jamaican platters you've sorted through trying to get a sound like this!"

On Saturday and Sunday, July 21 & 22, 2012 the Mateel Community Center proudly presents the 28th Annual Reggae On The River festival at Benbow Lake Recreation Area in Humboldt County, California. An internationally renowned celebration of the best in reggae and world music, the 2012 Reggae on the River festival will feature nearly 30 classic and cutting edge reggae and world music artists on two stages, along with 80+ vendors, a lively kid zone, and a weekend full of fun. We are also thrilled to announce that we recently entered into a contract with French's Camp, the original venue for Reggae On The River for its first 20+ years, and are working diligently to see the event return home in 2013 and beyond. Though the Benbow location has served us well, all of us at the Mateel Community Center would like to thank you for your support and patience in recent years as we worked to return the show to its rightful home and reclaim the great Reggae On The River tradition. We couldn't be happier to announce that things are finally coming full circle and that there is light at the end of this tunnel. So please bear with us over the next few weeks as we solidify details for the 2012 event and know that your support this year will help us take Reggae On The River home in 2013 and beyond!

Wednesday April 25th – The Barn Presents The Lions With Peanut Butter Wolf The Lions is a unique Jamaican-inspired outfit, the result of an impromptu recording session by members of Hepcat, Breakestra, Orgone and Macy Gray (to name a few). They created grooves that went beyond the Reggae spectrum by combining new and traditional rhythms, and dub mixing mastery with the global sounds of Ethiopia, Colombia and Africa. Teaming up with Stones Throw Records label mate and owner, The Lions share the bill with the legendary Peanut Butter Wolf. Peanut Butter Wolf remains one of the most shining examples of independent success in Hip Hop. DJ, producer and label magnate, Wolf created Stones Throw Records in 1996 and built one of the most enigmatic and creative alternative labels to challenge the mainstream Hip Hop world. Boasting artists such as MADLIB and collaborations with J-Dilla, Wolf continues to progressively change music. Don’t miss the spring 2012 kickoff, as the Barn doors are kicked wide open and invaded by Stones Throw Records’ The Lions and Peanut Butter Wolf. This mash up of Hip Hop, Reggae and Funk greatness marks the beginning of a new season. Get your pastel Sunday sweater out of hibernation and bring your favorite bunny suit down to UC Riverside’s Barn for the 2012 Spring Concert Series kickoff!!
