About
Freak World Entertainment is the realization of an idea that was born back in 2000, when Javier Fernandez thought that putting a label together would be a great way to help the Costa Rican metal scene by signing selected bands and releasing their material.
Approximately five years passed before the project became a reality. The first band that was signed to the label was Decembers Cold Winter, a melodic death metal band that had won two Subterranean Metal Battle (Metal Batalla 2000 and 2002) competitions and had quickly become a fan favorite. The 2005 release of the bands debut album, Decaying Recollections, marked the official birth of the label. The album received great reviews, won La Escapatorias "Best Album" Award and was nominated to an A.C.A.M. award, both in 2006.
Freak World Entertainment sponsored and served as co-promoter to the promotional tour that followed, Awakening Tour. The band Pneuma joined December's Cold Winter as part of the tour in support of their debut album, A Run Through, and during their sets it became evident that there was something special about them.
They were quickly offered a record deal and became part of the Freak World family. Theirs is a clever mix of genres that would best be described as Technical Thrash. They are currently recording their first FWE album, which will be released later on this year.
Later on, locals 1n54n0, a consolidated nu metal/thrash metal act with 2 self-released albums (and several EPs), were homeless after the new label that was supposed to release their 3rd album never came through. Freak World Entertainment had approached the band about this album before, but negotiations were truncated by this other label that eventually not only didnt deliver, but also was refusing to release the master. FWE, along with the band, purchased the master from this company and signed the band. Drain is on sale now!
