About
Kate Beneteau is a musician, artist, songwriter, and producer from Windsor, Ontario. She started playing the piano at 8 years old and fell in love with the instrument immediately. It wasn’t until she taught herself guitar at 14, however, that she began to explore songwriting. Her first major purchase of recording equipment that same year – a Fostex FD-8 Digital Multitracker – opened up a vast world of possibilities and allowed her to expand her creative endeavours further than she’d ever thought possible.
Kate found an outlet for expressing her ever-growing passion for music and production in the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College in 2003, where she had the privilege of being taught by long-time music business mogul Terry McManus (A&M Records), Juno award winning Kevin Doyle (Glenn Gould, Alannah Myles, The Passion of the Christ), and world-renowned legendary producer Jack Richardson (The Guess Who, Bob Seger, Alice Cooper). In 2004, she was awarded the Universal Music Scholarship for Academic Excellence in recognition of her hard work, dedication and talent. After graduating from Music Industry Arts in 2005, she secured a full-time internship at Deluxe Sound & Picture in Toronto in the hopes of developing a career in audio post-production.
It was during her internship that Kate came to a crossroads of sorts: She wanted to devote her time and energy to music and the creation of music, which the demanding and often hectic world of audio post-production doesn't always allow for. She’s also dreamed of one day obtaining her business degree, which she has been working on for the past three years now. She hopes to get her Certified General Accountant designation within the next 3-5 years, which will allow her to pursue her goal of financing and operating a record label and multimedia company down the road with added confidence and knowledge of how to properly run a successful business.
Even though being a full-time student doesn’t provide a lot of time for creative endeavours, she still finds time to write and produce music whenever she can. Recently she has collaborated with the incredibly talented Toronto artist Christopher Guglick, who lent his stunning vocals to a track she had previously written entitled “Crash.” The instrumental version of Crash was picked up in May, 2007 by Windsor-based film and television production company, Suede Productions, for use in a television documentary. With the sale of her first song under her belt, and the realization that her music is well suited for the world of film and television, Kate is actively looking for other avenues to contribute her instrumental work to.
