AMPed (Art, Music, Poetry) for Global Justice is an event to raise our individual and collective voices for a different economic model, one that puts the planet and people before profits. Come experience a night of cultural rebellion, as we raise our voices (and paintbrushes!) in resistance to the TPP and economic injustice. This event comes on the eve of the 17th round of the TransPacific Partnership negotiations. The TPP is the most far-reaching (and secretive) “free trade” agreement to date. “Free trad...e” (in quotations) because it has little to do with reducing tariffs and the “free” movement of goods and much to do with acquiring the spoils of the Cold War, preventing the rise of effective, viable alternatives to capitalism, and laying the ideal framework for the maximization of corporate and financial sector influence (read: profits) over national and international decision-making. The TPP has the potential to limit access to generic medications, it raises significant concerns about access to a free and open internet, threatening some of the most fundamental rights that enable access to knowledge. Freedom of expression, right to privacy, due process, technological innovation, and the future of the Internet’s global infrastructure are all at risk. It also would set up a tribunal system in which multi-nationals could sue governments for enforcing labor, public health, or environmental regulations if those regulations inhibit potential corporate profits. We know you dream of a different world. Come tell us or show us or sing to us or paint for us what that world looks like. And PLEASE make posters or other art to submit for this event!!! again, under the themes of economic justice/greed/TPP/capitalism/the better world we hold in our hearts... please submit them to Amberly or Cheong at the restaurant supply store right next to Cafe Hey before April 29th so we have time to put them up!
