Witness the beginning of a brand new project created by a group of aspiring Chicago musicians to enhance the local music scene. The first show will be held this Saturday from noon to 4pm at Morgan's Bar and Grill right by Illinoise University Chicago. Along with hosting the event, our good friends Yellow Jacket will be joining Mumbojumbo rocking out the afternoon. Please read below for the full story and come on out this Saturday for some good crafted beer and music. And admission is free! Maxwell Street Collective: What are we up to? We’re organizing music collective (Maxwell Street Collective) based on a weekly showcase that will establish a new music scene in Chicago. And we want you to be part of it. Why are we doing this? We have a vision for bringing artists together for the sake of creating excellent music, for networking, and for collaboration. Ultimately we want to work with others to create a scene in Chicago that explodes with great music and enriches the musical landscape of the city. But we needed the right venue (one that screens bands based on their musical quality and not their draw), and we needed the right artists (ones that have a great sound and want to be part of a bigger vision for music in Chicago). We know the artists were out there. But our take is that we’re all like a bunch of individual charcoals trying to light our own fires around city. And if we can bring these groups together, we can really get a fire going. But we had to search long and hard for the right venue that would hold this fire. Thankfully, we found our grill! Ultimately, we believe that Chicago is desperate for fiery music again. Indie bands and DJ’s aren’t cutting it! Here’s How We’re doing all of this by creating a music collective and taking over a venue! The collective will consist of a handful of quality Chicago based bands that have a dynamic rock or blues based sound (no indie, no punk, no metal, no acoustic), and that want to be part of a collaborative music community. The great news is that we have a venue! Morgan’s on Maxwell (Halsted and Maxwell) has agreed to let us use Thursdays nights for a Rock Showcase. Basically, bands in the collective will rotate to perform at Morgan’s each Thursday night (i.e., once every 1-2 months). And we imagine that we could do a lot of other creative things besides the traditional rotation. We just want the collective to collaborate and put together a really vibrant and creative scene on Thursdays (and even beyond). The sky is the limit!
