Bio
Houndmouth is a collaborative folk/rock band from the lowland plains and farmlands of Indiana and Kentucky. Their poetry emphasizes foolhardiness, and their soulful harmonies carry far. Once a folk duo, Katie Toupin and Matt Myers (of the Saint James Hotel) joined up with Shane Cody (of Riffraff Revival) and Zak Appleby to create a colossal electric sound with bouncy half-time beats, punchy guitar riffs, and a bit of facial hair.

“From the opening guitar riff and organ chord, the melodies will envelop you and take you to a land that is as peaceful as it is picturesque. The style evokes that of the American folk rock from the late 60′s/early 70′s that artists such as the Grateful Dead and The Band were releasing—music that reverted to a simple and authentic backwoods country-folk sound, yet still had the tendencies of crowd-pleasing blues-rock. In simplicity there was beauty and the same ring’s true for Houndmouth’s first song. It’s easy to tell that they’re moved by the classics—especially since referencing The Band’s legendary drummer Levon Helm as an influence–and they emulate the mood perfectly with their strong vocal harmonies and excellent song craftsmanship. This is a very young band, and it’s easy to tell that they carry a great deal of talent. It’ll be exciting to see where they move on to from here.”
