About
In 2004, Hip Hop Education ("HHE") a non profit organization was founded by Ben and Sabrina Wiggins a brother and sister team in response to the lack of positive outlets for at-risk youth. Hip Hop Education is an innovative music program aimed at leveraging the powerful connection between urban music (primarily hip hop) and youth as a means for developing creative talent and important life skills. Hip Hop has become one of the most important ways to communicate and open dialogue with youth. Our ultimate goal is building sustainable livelihoods for at-risk youth using music as entry point to income generation, skills training and employment. Mission To provide the youth of the 21st Century an opportunity to use their voice for positive and social change through three platforms, Hip-Hop, dialogue, and activism Vision Educate, empower and activate young people to become the next generation of social justice leaders by giving them a voice in front of their peers to inspire positive change in their community. Goals Help youth create positive self-expression through music and arts, build self-esteem, develop leadership skills and increase youth involvement in their community. Since 2004, HHE was worked intensively with more than 150 youth in the schools and community. The youth has successfully recorded nine professional quality tracks and performed in over 30 live showcases. Through the 4 years, youth have performed at events, forums, and conferences across the nation. Walk 4 Change, National Black Luv Fest, Justice for Jena 6 Rally, Hip Hop Caucus: Enough is Enough Rally, Sojourner Truth Day Celebration, Stop the Violence Rally, and Code Pink, Stop the War Rally are some of events our youth participated in. We have reached additional youth as audience members from speaking engagements and performances.
