About
Multi-instrumental singer/songwriter George Zhen has been making his own music for nearly 25 years, having played in such bands as Some People's Children, Black Janet, The 12th of Never, Son of Elektra and Love Canal. His musical influences are a veritable core-sample of modern music spanning from The Beatles and Bowie to My Morning Jacket and The Decemberists. Today he endeavors to be a self-published musician crafting his own music on his own terms.
His latest project is a concept album of sorts inspired by the likes of Pink Floyd and Radiohead. Dust of the American Pixel conveys the story of humanity and its battle with technology. In a deliberate attempt to merge the electronic and organic sounds that frame his musical background, Zhen has combined elements such as synthetic bases and electronic drum loops with natural pianos, acoustic guitars and hand drums to create both a unique sound and a sonic metaphor for this conflict.
Other recent works have a much more straightforward, guitar/pop vibe as can be heard in tracks such as 6 Months in Ohio and Another American Anthem. These songs were released online in 2008 and will be a part of a forthcoming CD tentatively entitled A Note to Future Self which will be released in late 2009. Songs from his 2004 self titled CD can also be found on this site.
George has also worked as a producer in recent years helping to craft Shawn Snyder's full length debut CD, Romantic's Requiem, which was released by his own Wild Iris Records label in 2007. He has also worked as a producer with Kyle William's imadethismistake project in 2006 and 2007.
