Hailing from the whimsy locale of Slambovia (in reality, they’re from Sleepy Hollow, NY), Joziah Longo and his fellow circus-folk have culled up a tight following since hitting the road for the first time in 1998. Their punkish backwoods folkie take on jam rock is a refreshing and their wildly entertaining stage presence, with a carnie-like fashion sense, makes for a truly unique and memorable live music experience. You’ll hear them referred to as Punk Classical Hillbilly Pink Floyd, and that’s about as accurate as it gets. Their melodic, psychedelic and darkly upbeat mix of scorching guitar, piccolo, flute, bass, cello, accordion, mandolin and theremin is exciting, inspiring and unlike anything we’ve had on StageOne. “Yes, that’s really what they call themselves. After you’ve dragged yourself, beaten and bloodied, through all of those fourteen syllables, you’ll be presently surprised to find an entirely enjoyable easy-listening folk-rock band.” – PopMatters.com “A captivatingly unconventional, tremendously gifted musical tribe of which I was about to become a devoted fan, joining legions of other disciples.” – Rutland Herald, Southern Vermont
(Cabaret Reserved for Members until 6/16) Creating an enchanting atmosphere driven by the distinctive singing & songwriting of Joziah Longo, Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams is a mental rollercoaster of whimsical, thought-provoking compositions. Citing influences as diverse as Hank, Dylan, Bowie, Incredible String Band & early Floyd, Longo describes the band's music as "punk-classical-hillbilly-Floyd.” The Circus has earned critical acclaim & a fiercely loyal following as they tour in support of new album “The Grand Slambovians” "Whenever I watch The Circus it reminds me to write and perform with my whole heart and soul." ~ Dar Williams "Lively songs that are imbued with mystical stirrings." ~ New York Times "Super and Natural... I love this band!" ~ Gene Shay, WXPN
