Famous Jake has joined The Asylum Street Spankers!

A graduate of Cornish College in Seattle, Jakob had been teaching and performing music in the greater Puget Sound for the last eight years.  A native of Eastern Iowa, Jakob's background ranges from symphony halls to street corners.

Jakob has played violin in Seattle’s only Cuban Charanga band Orchestra Zarabanda (formerly Yerbabuena) since 2001.  He's been known to fiddle a little bluegrass with Cabin Kind, Jes Raymond and Her Famous Band, and the Bitterroots.  Along with Yusuf Kilgore,  he co-led a French gypsy jazz quintet ala Django Reinhardt called Swing Soiree. Honky Tonk and country fiddling are also part of his repertoire, having been one of Howlin' Lane Fernando's Angels of Sin, as well as an an Honorary Undertaker with Gertrude's Hearse.

Born and raised in Dubuque County, Iowa, Jakob is the oldest of five fiddler/multi-instrumentalists who join the parents in The One Hat Band. Growing up as a busker, Jakob takes to the stage as a truly seasoned performer, as well as accomplished violinist. His claims to fame include having been invited at the age of eight to play one fiddle tune with the grandfather of bluegrass, Bill Monroe; and to have played in an orchestra with Yo Yo Ma.
