Hokum Jazz will be playing in the small venue called Gypsy Sally's on 8/28/14. Please come and support us for our first performance here at this new venue! We will be: JC Veve, guitar, vocals; Eric Shramek, acoustic bass; Esther Haynes, vocals, guitar for our usual repertoire of 20's-30's acoustic jazz/roots music! CDs will be available. Hokum Jazz started out as a couple of guys singing and playing esoteric folk blues and jazz tunes, as well as some novelties from the white secular tradition of the time, now commonly understood as "country" music. Changes experienced by the band over the years culminated in the addition of Berklee-trained musician Esther Haynes. Her arrival worked to shift the group's focus away somewhat from the Pre-WWII country blues bag, in order to delve more deeply into the "hot jazz" swing style exemplified by the Hot Club of France. The result features an eclectic song list sure to entertain and amuse.
