Bio
I am a prairie singer songwriter from central Alberta, Canada. I write from where I live, about where I live. I play out solo, in various formations from duo to being joined by the lovely musicians who make up the Prairie Four, or in song swapping venues with other singer songwriters.
About
It all starts here...
Early influences include: listening to songs played on CFCW- country and western radio at my grandparents home in the hamlet Bawlf, Alberta, choir music and of course in my late teens- Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. The first songwriter I was aware of is my mom. She would sit at the piano and come up with funny little songs such as Gasoline Cowboy. In the past few years my ear has been especially attuned to Jason Mraz and Justin Stewart. I like to tap dance to Jason's recordings and am repeatedly wowed by Justin's lyrical guitar stylings when in practice, playing out or when I have the chance to just listen. The most profoundly beautiful writing and performance I have heard of late belongs to Ian Tyson who has this stunning blend of celtic/western/folk. He is the best of the best.
Song birds, the dog singing along with the harmonica, the light in a wise old person's eyes, leaves of fall turning a near neon golden yellow are all muses- the ever moving target. Right now I feel like I am writing and singing and playing for all that I am worth. I simply can't keep up with the ideas, phrases, melodies. I say "hush now little muse I have a recording to do. You will have to wait a bit".
On the cooker...
Thank you so much for taking the time to give a listen to my demo. Much appreciated! I always hope you will find a space for yourself within my music or that it will evoke a memory. I am touched by the stories others tell me and the interest shown in my work (play really!). I am very aware of the level of support I am receiving and I am grateful for the beautiful musicians who are harvesting my songs with me. My next step is to create a professional CD. I will spend most of the fall preparing to record. To be able to work with Barry Allen on this project is a gift from above. And after that, I will share the music and collect more stories and show reverence to the muse!
CD release is aimed for April 11, 2010. I will have an actual and virtual party so everyone is invited. Joy to all! D
Feedback is good...

On behalf of the Alberta Development Officers Association (ADOA) I will
say I heard many positive comments from the delegates. I wish to express
my gratitude to you for your wonderful performance. You and your band have
an easy rapport with each other and that creates a very welcoming and
positive atmosphere that resonates well with the audience.
Donna Durand Prairie Four has another new fan and I look forward to the
release of your first CD!
Best wishes,
