“Jayna Doyle (Death of Paris) started the night off with an acapella verse. That girl can sing crazy good! She was soon joined by the rest of her band, complete with giant strobe lights, for a solid set. Each song was carefully and lovingly performed. For those of you who haven’t seen or heard Death of Paris yet, try to imagine Paramore and Postal Service colliding, but with a way better singer. The song that struck me most was “Villains.” It’s a gritty dance tune that is guaranteed to get you moving. It was the song DOP finished their set with, and in my opinion, my favorite song.”

““East or West,” the first song written after the breakup, has a haunting electricity. “Give yourself a hand, ’cause you gave up on this / It was your dying wish, and still you called it quits,” Doyle sings to open the track, her vocals filtered. The song then briefly erupts into a guitar-and-synth-driven dance track before being tempered by a return to Doyle’s impassioned lyrical ode. Another standout is “We’ll Sleep When We’re Dead,” which illustrates the band’s penchant for anthemic and memorable choruses, the kind of stick-in-your-head words and melodies heard on hits. It made me want to start the car and drive.. with the stereo at full blast, which is what I did. This is one of the scene’s most creative and public relations savvy bands in town. Others, before you pick up the phone — and instruments, while I’m at it — you should take note. ”
