David Longoria joins Instrumental great Wouter Kellerman as a guest in the unique concert at one of the world's premiere venues.
LA-based trumpeter David Longoria and South African flutist Wouter Kellerman will perform at the Clive Davis theatre at the GRAMMY Museum on October 1, 2014, promising a magical evening of music from across the globe! Award-winning trumpeter David Longoria is one of the world's most exciting trumpetists. He was classically trained before discovering jazz during which time he honed his natural ability to improvise virtually any style of music and take it to new places every time he performs. Diving head first into this artform opened the door to discovery in related types of music from Gospel to R&B, Flamenco and other Latin styles. Longoria's instrumental dance pop single titled Zoon Baloomba reached nr 21 on the Billboard Dance Music Chart in 2012. When it debuted it became the first recording on this chart by a trumpeter since Herb Alpert charted his instrumental single "Rise" in 1979. Longoria has produced and remixed many artists including Sparks ("When Do I Get To Sing 'My Way'"), Dr. Alban (Look Who's Talking), Sting(Fields Of Gold album), Andrae Crouch (Spoon Fed Christian), Michael J. Downey (America). In his show, featuring songs from his latest album ‘Baila!’, David sings and plays the trumpet as no other artist of our generation. Globe-trotting flutist and composer Wouter Kellerman’s album Two Voices won the 2011 South African Music Award (the nation’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards) for Best Instrumental Album, reinforcing Kellerman’s standing as one of his home country’s most innovative musicians. Whether writing intricate instrumental compositions or delighting audiences with a magnetic alchemy of warmth and technical mastery, Kellerman finds his inspiration in the spaces between cultures and countries, genres and disciplines. He thrives on experimenting with the shades, textures, and colors that his flute can bring, pushing the instrument into new planes of creativity. The last few years have seen Kellerman performing in Berlin, Shanghai, New York, Sydney, and beyond, including an appearance in front of 700-million people as part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Ceremony. Wouter is regarded as one of South Africa’s most musically adventurous world-music proponents, who keeps his sound fresh and progressive by incorporating a fusion of influences and styles into his music with vocalists and instrumentalists to create an exhilarating performance. Local audiences will be treated to one of Kellerman’s trademark live performances, supported by an ensemble of talented artists including Senegalese singer and percussionist Lamine Sonko, South African bassist and singer Phresh Makhene, guitarist Luke van der Merwe and drummer David Klassen, also from South Africa.
