Creative, Energetic, Humorous, Compelling, Controversial, and Passionate. These are the types of words one would use to describe Dave Elwert and his music. With musical influences from Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Bruce Hornsby to that of Coldplay, U2, and Train, Dave has managed to create a sound that is not only defined by unforgettable melodies, but also catchy instrumental hooks, much like those found in the sounds of Motown. Playing primarily for high school and college folks, his music has been said to come as a breath of fresh air to a music scene saturated with negativity.
Dave thrives on writing about the various aspects of life. He uses his personal experiences and convictions as the basis of most of his writing; however you might also find him writing a song about something a friend or family member is going through. He says that when he needs something to write about, all he has to do is take a look around. Give him a thought and he'll give you a chorus. Give him a poem and he'll give you a melody. Give him a story and he'll give you an entire song. Music is simply part of who he is.
At the young age of 23, Dave has accomplished more than the average aspiring musician. His songwriting ability has been recognized and rewarded by several organizations over the years, including WQME Radio, Antrim Music, MEISA, and Orangehaus Records, winning him college grants, scholarships, a record deal with Orangehaus Records, management and booking deals, and even paid studio time at state of the art recording studios. He has had the privilege of playing/working along side several well-respected individuals in the music industry as well, such as Mark Pay (Orangehaus Records), Kids in the Way (Flicker Records), Cliff Ritchey (a.m. Drive), Steve Milikan, and Jon McLaughlin (Island Defjam Records) among others.
Dave's debut album as a solo artist focuses on a variety of thoughts and events that occurred over the past couple of years. It is a story of ups and downs, encouragement and uncertainty, empowerment and doubt; a never-ending battle and one that everyone fights. So like every great battle is given a name, Dave decided to name this one “The Battle of Direction”.
We have had a lot of people ask when and where Dave will be playing next, so here's the scoop. "The Battle of Direction" is going to be released in the fall of 2007. The album will be available for purchase online, at live performances, and even at some local bookstores. You will find Dave playing at several churches, youth centers, colleges, and camps throughout the year. If you would like to book a show at your church, youth center, camp, or college, simply send an inquiry to boardwalkentertainment@gmail.com with the subject line reading "Dave Elwert Booking". We look forward to an exciting year. Stay tuned for the official album release date and show postings.
