Bio
Brokedown Playboys are a Washington DC rockabilly and honky tonk trio. Debuting in June of 2008, the Playboys have been entertaining audiences with their high-energy original and cover repertoire at a brisk pace, covering Northern Virginia, DC/suburban Maryland, and Baltimore at private events, club dates, and special events. Look for the debut album from the Playboys "Looking for a Lift," this year.

"Your" Andrew: Guitar & Vocals
Andrew cut his performing teeth with a series of college gargage bands culminating in Jess, a Maryland power-pop quartet. He next formed Kings of the Wild Frontier, a Baltimore surf and rockabilly outfit. After his run with the Kings, Andrew relocated to Washington, DC, and served as occasional side-man to various Rockabilly performers, before taking a permanent slot backing a Northern VA singer along with the rest of the Playboys. He, Matt and Jon then formed Brokedown Playboys to bring a dual-lead vocalist high-energy trio to area audiences.
"Mean" Matt: Upright Bass & Vocals
Matt was born in Kentucky, but as an "Army brat" has lived in Washington, Texas, and Indiana--finally settling in Virginia. He played electric bass in two Punk bands previously: Double Think & Savage Remains. As Matt puts it: "I've always been a fan of early rock 'n' roll and decided to really quit messing around with playing Punk Rock simply because it didn't move me anymore."
"Smilin" Jon: Drums
Jon started his musical journey on the trumpet during his scholastic years. He picked up bass upon leaving school, and joined The Rejected, a Silver Spring punk rock band. The exit of their drummer provided Jon the opportunity to try a new instrument and after a successful run with The Rejected, he joined Andrew in forming Jess. Jon then relocated to San Diego. Returning to the mid-Atlantic five years later, Jon did a stint with Matt and Andrew in Northern Virginia before joining them in forming the Playboys.
With a brisk show schedule, you can catch the Playboys at a metro DC, NOVA or Baltimore venue soon. Shows are high-energy, entertaining affairs, with respect for the musical traditions that influence the band combining with their own lens on the rockabilly and honky tonk canons. From time to time, you'll see the Playboys joined by rocking special guests, and the 'boys have been delighted to share the stage with some of the area's finest roots musicians.
