Bio
Schafer is not your typical recording artist. In fact there is nothing typical about the direction of her career or her writing. Her fan-base has stretched beyond the contemporary Jewish music roots that drove her early releases, and has crossed into the mainstream writing rock with spirit; carefully avoiding both the dogma and fluff that sometimes clouds religious music.
Beth tours with a band that can really groove. She fronts the group on guitars. All players also sing allowing Schafer's harmony-rich tunes to soar in concert.
Highlights of Beth's career have been playing at center court for the Orlando Magic, winning the 2006 American Idol Faith-Based competition, and playing for President Barack Obama's historic campaign.
About
Beth’s music has been woven into the worship repertoire of congregations throughout the country. She has visited hundreds of congregations as an artist-in-residence, guest musician or guest educator. Sometimes she travels solo, more often now with her Orlando-based band. Her sound is unique and her writing has been dubbed poetic—the “new American Piyyutim, American Psalms”
Beth has been touring and recording with the same guys for 10 years. They are like a family. Harmonies come easily, travel is fun and they have made genuine friends throughout the country of people who have been drawn into their well produced, fun yet touching shows.
Locally, Schafer’s flavor of music has established her congregation, Temple Shir Shalom of Oviedo, as a place to go for a joyous and spiritually nourishing services. Temple Shir Shalom enjoys a special relationship with Beth, knowing that part of her pulpit has to allow her to “do her thing” around the country. Both Beth and the congregation feel lucky and both feel that they benefit from this special arrangement. Temple Shir Shalom is a member of the Union for Reform Judaism, of which Beth is an active musician, consultant and educator.
All in all, Schafer stays busy, but most importantly inspired. As her calendar becomes full with dates in cities around the country, she is most grateful for her homebase-her husband and daughters, and for her congregation which helps keep her priorities in focus while serving the community.
