SHADES OF CRIMSON are relative newcomers to the Southern California metal scene but whose members are anything but new to the secrets of steel. Combining a wealth of experience as members of various late '80s and early 90's outfits of local and national renown, this Pacoima, CA-based outfit has forged its own powerful brand of heavy metal since the band's inception in February 2009.
Initiated by guitarist Robert Jimenez, a fervent admirer of neo-classical masters such as Yngwie Malmsteen and Jason Becker, the line-up quickly took shape with the addition of former Vengeance Rising touring guitarist Daniel Cordova on bass. Recently aboard is long-time friend John Gonzales to solidify the drum position. Finding a suitable vocalist would prove a more difficult task, however as SHADES OF CRIMSON went through three singers before pulling in Frank Casciato who had been honing his pipes fronting local Judas Priest and Queensryche tribute bands. Recently Shades has added former Hirax / Death Riders guitarist David Watson to the ranks.
Having worked up a first batch of material, the band quickly tapped high school friend and producer-to-the-metal-stars, Roy Z (Judas Priest, Halford, Bruce Dickinson) to engineer, produce, and mix an initial 4-song EP, including the song 'Nightfall.' A searing slab of powerful, melodic metal, 'Nightfall' makes a strong opening statement that's bound make SHADES OF CRIMSON an instant favorite among connoisseurs of bands such as Rainbow, Rising Force or Symphony X.
