The ACE was born and raised in The L.I.B, WA. That's Liberia, West Africa - for those who don't know. He grew up on old Motown music, soul music, Michael Jackson & well, everything 80’s. Music means a lot to this artist and listening to, writing or performing music are his forms therapy in this stressful world. The ACE can be quoted as saying “Studio time beats anything I could get with a shrink.”
He grew up in the choir, never quite thought he'd be a solo artist; albeit he can sing a good tenor and is good to back up anyone on stage. He claims to have never felt comfortable about singing as a solo artist but he has a couple of tracks showing that he can hold a note.
By high school, a growing love for hip-hop music and constant scribbling of lyrics in notebooks sparked a hope of an avenue to finally do music as a solo artist. He began rapping lyrics that he’d originally written for singing; many freestyle sessions later – it became official. Arthur Cassell wanted to rap.
The rap career officially kicked off after meeting David Einzig at The Ohio State University – a freestyle/jamming cipher was soon followed by gigs at The Victorian Midnight (primarily) and other bars in Columbus - spitting freestyle to acoustic guitars, flutes & hand drums in 2007. By 2008, The ACE was recording his first original project ‘New To The Game’ a gutter and explicit insight to the Liberian born rapper's life across the Atlantic in Liberia and here in The US. Influenced by a wide array of rappers - whether it was their style, their lyrics, or just one song - and loaded with hard knock life experience - single parent, beyond poor and living thru a 14 year civil war – The ACE has lines to burn and stories to tell. He enjoys telling his story, hence his stage name - The ACE - The Arthur Cassell Experience.
