Thanks a lot for venturing into Sandmist's Reverbnation Page. Please find below a short biography (story) of how it all happened.
The core of this project is made of Black Metal, majestic symphonic orchestrations, heavy guitars and fast kicking drums. All forming up a tight solid body which manifest itself into a real entertaining mutant.
Sandmist was founded in 2003 by Oliver M Grech, a multi-instrumentalist and audio expert from Malta. At first, Oliver struggled a lot in the deployment and recording since the equipment he had was cheap and couldn’t produce a decent demo and any other production.
The first Sandmist material appeared in public in 2008 resulting in 3 short demo tracks: Into the Crystal Pyramid, The Return of Osiris and Mummification.
Though limited in resources, especially time, Oliver began writing material and recording songs on an occasional basis.
These 3 tracks were re-recorded after some feedback and along with two more tracks a demo was released, named Gold of the Ancients.
The project’s musical style was always a big question mark. Aiming to write Black Metal songs and finishing up with something close to Extreme Symphonic Metal, but with various blends of Melodic Death and Black Metal traditions.
In 2005, after embarking on a short ride to the closest music store, Oliver spent all of his hard earned money on musical instruments and equipment. Following several gigs with his other bands, Oliver coudn’t keep up with everything and Sandmist was in a massive halt until 2008. Then, a new Sandmist album got planned and song writing begun.
By December 2010, Sandmist’s second album, named Portent of Shifting Leaders got released, which drew inspiration from fictional laws, Armageddon, propaganda and power in the world. In this 9 Track Full Length Album the listener is taken through a journey of
The most interesting aspect which happened to Sandmist is that tough Oliver admits it is not some sort of prediction, the album Portent of Shifting Leaders gave an impression of predicting the uprisings and protests which happened in 2011.
Following the release of this album, Oliver continued his ongoing efforts of improving and polishing the sound, yet again, went back to his nearby music store to upgrade some of his equipment. The choice was a Native Instruments Interface (Komplete Audio 6) and following that a pair of legendary Yamaha NS10M Studio Monitors were given by a close friend. After getting accustomed to the new setup, Oliver started once again writing new material. The last song in Portent of Shifting Leaders was “Into Outer Space”, and that was were the next album started from, “Into Outer Space”.
Galactic Repulsions got Released in November 2012, and went sold out in 2 Months. This 10 track Full Length is also available on iTunes.
In 2013, Sandmist will be preparing and researching for the 4th Album, which as announced during the last launch, it’s going to be a full musical description of an old Castle in Space, but close to Earth. In the meantime, Sandmist promised that all demo songs during 2013 will be distributed out for free, and 50% of sales generated from Reverbnation will go to the Fender Music Foundation.
As always, thanks a lot for the support given by the loyal fans, it’s greatly appreciated.
