With his Hispanic heritage and blues/rock/country background, Johnny's music exudes passion and depth, with a driving rock edge.
Johnny was born in 1961 in San Diego to Costa Rican immigrants. He started playing guitar at age sixteen, when after a long morning surfing session he really listened to the Jimi Hendrix's song "Are You Experienced" for the first time. He immediately realized that if it was that fun to listen to, just think how much fun it would be to play it!
He immediately rented his first guitar, a Fender Bronco and began taking lessons. Completely spellbound by his new-found obsession he was writing songs and playing them in his original band "Axis" within a year.
He was influenced early on by artists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Joe Walsh, Carlos Santana, ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He cut his teeth playing in several bands in the greater San Diego area, then moved to the Inland Empire (Temecula) in the mid 90's. Then he began writing and composing original songs while still performing.
The next wave of guitar heroes came along and inspired him even further. Guitarists like Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Brett Garsed. All the while Johnny has been honing his craft and expanding his guitar skills further, while not forgetting his bluesy roots. Johnny continues to compose, collaborate and perform, and his music is a must-hear for any true music fan.
He founded and is currently performing in "Kingpin", where he performs classic and contemporary rock n roll at local clubs, bars, casinos, wineries, weddings, and parties. Check the calendar and catch his next show, you won't be disappointed.
