It all began in Greentown, Indiana, a small farming community where she learned to work hard and follow through with things. Where she first sang to trees and listened for the melodies in the nature around her. It’s where Josephine Johnson learned she loved writing. Walking in the woods, listening, wrestling with how to tell the stories of the things she'd heard and seen.
And then travel, adventure, and education informed her music: She joined Americorps. Twice. Worked a ski resort to learn to snowboard. Led students for the Student Conservation Association. Twice. Found her way to Savannah College of Art and Design and then made it to Humboldt State University. Earned a Master’s in English; taught English in China; performed in China; taught in Thailand, performed there, too.
And through it all, Josephine wrote.
Stories, poetry, rants, lyrics, music–working things out on guitar to play open-mics, coffee shops, bars and eventually venues like the Arcata Playhouse in far-northern California, the Plough and Stars in San Francisco, then TRiP in Santa Monica, and El Cid & Pig 'n Whistle in Hollywood.
She released her first album, Elemental, in 2010 while living in Eureka, California.
Let It All Out, was release January 2014. Josephine Johnson in on tour this summer promoting Let It All Out.
