Solar Punch is a band on a mission. In an effort to diminish our carbon footprint and move more mindfully around the planet, we've been using Solar Energy exclusively since 2007. We use easy-to-obtain, easy-to-understand solar components in a highly portable and self-contained configuration to perform music about the environment and encourage action towards climate challenges. Our performance is one long demonstration of a realistic, effective solution that fans can understand, listeners can enjoy and aspiring renewable energy entrepreneurs can learn from.
As of March 2014, Solar Punch has toured India five separate times and has completed the world's first ever Solar Trek in the Nepali Himlayas. Upcoming projects include a return to India this June 2014, with events in Gujarat, Gurgaon and Kashmir culminating in the band's participation in a unique conservation effort along the trail of the annual Hindu pilgrimage 'The Amarnath Yatra'.
In early 2015 the band will have a tour of Thailand and explore that country's reactions and actions to climate challenges. The band will also be adding a number of Thai rock and pop songs to their repertoire.
Solar Punch connects through music. It is the undisputed easiest, most exciting and effective way to initiate a dialogue between different cultures and peoples. Whether writing a poignant song in English about a human and environmental tragedy like the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil rig explosion or enjoying the basic beats of a Bollywood song like 'Yunhi Chala Chal' from the Bollywood movie 'Swadesh', music has helped open minds, eyes and hearts everywhere the band has performed.
