The DVM Band is a Worcestershire based band that is built around the prolific songwriting of Dale Von Minaker who is joined by bassist Gaz Gibbons and drummer/backing vocalist Steve Smith.
As young boy Dale Von Minaker fancied himself as a singer/songwriter. At 15 years old he was originally a drummer of some merit but began experimenting with guitar, bass, piano and singing, leading to him writing lyrics and eventually his own material. Maintaining that the songs were more important than his abilities on any (or all) of the instruments he went through the stage of writing terrible teenage pap-rock to quite catchy and more accessible pop songs . He played in several bands in several roles most noticeably in Kidderminster groups New Artic Set and The Amateurs before nearly letting life win and giving up on music to concentrate on winemaking and its disposal.
In 2005 he met his partner Angela who encouraged him to start playing again, aided by the fact that she let him build a studio in her broom cupboard. He appeared to be making a pretty good racket and after several open-mic performances to rave reviews his stage legs returned.
He entered one of his tracks “Everybody Wants A Revolution” into the 2011 youbloom.com songwriting awards. His work was critiqued by Sir Bob Geldof and Producer Rupert Hine leading him to become an annual Semi-finalist just missing out on the annual final but incredibly leaving the competition with 2500+ facebook likes –more than anyone in the competition. Someone it appeared was listening.
He knuckled down and wrote an 11 track album, creating a pre-production demo CD of these tracks to woo potential musicians to join him in what was initially a “project” bassist Gaz and drummer Steve came onboard but as everyone seemed to have a great chemistry the project was dropped and The Dale Von Minaker Band (or The DVM Band as they are often known as) was born.
After 12 months of rehearsals and gigs the band spent some time at Magic Garden Studios in Wolverhampton under the guidance of producer Gavin Monaghan who had previously worked with Editors, Ocean Colour Scene and Robert Plant. The 11 track album "YOU ARE HERE" was released 26/07/12 digitally on all the popular platforms as well as on limited edition CD.
In late 2012 the band ended the year supporting MADNESS at the LG Arena and their first BBC introducing session beginning another exciting year.
As of September 2013 they are just putting the finishing touches to their forthcoming single which features the Saxophone talents of Alvin Davis who has played for Edwin Starr, Jackie Graham and Neville Staple of The Specials. The track is pending release early October with more new material already scheduled for recording.
