Ron Felix was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and moved to New York City. Ron carries music in his soul. He comes from a family of musicians. His father was an organ player and his four older brothers formed a popular Haitian band "Les Vikings" in the 1970s.
Inspired by his brothers, Ron started playing guitar at age 8 and self-taught for years until he joined his High school band where he began to broaden his studies in Music and continued his quest in Brooklyn College.
During his High School years Ron self-taught bass guitar, which later became his main instrument leading him to his very successful career.
When Ron was still in his teens, he co-founded SAKAD which was one of the first Haitian bands to incorporate modern styles with roots rhythms of Haiti. The quote below is from John Storm Roberts who is responsible for introducing world music to the USA.
"SAKAD is a young Long Island-based band that aims to produce an individual mix of traditional and contemporary. While that isn't quite as revolutionary as they think, they've already managed to create a personal version of the various mixes of old and new that float around the African diaspora these days. It's worth encouraging, in fact." ~ John Storm Roberts
