With a smoky soulfullness to his voice and musical styling born out of years of dedication and determination. Lee Lumley's music is a mix of worship, blues, country and rock styling with an unashamed reference to the one who gave him his talent. Add to that, the singer-songwriter style of heartfelt lyrics born out of brokenness, triumph and finding his place in the world, and you have an encouraging message of love wrapped up in four minute long mini-sermons.
Currently living in Wrightsville, Georgia, Lee began his musical journey in a small church in Central Georgia at the age of fourteen. It was during this time he began crafting his abilities and gravitating toward the music industry. After high school with only three and a half years of music experience, he began touring professionally throughout the southeastern United States. During this time Lee appeared on many television shows, radio shows, churches and venues large and small. After his time on the road, Lee went into the local church ministry as a minister of music, serving in several churches throughout central Georgia.
It was during this time that Lee's passion for songwriting began while listening to singer-songwriters like Stephen Curtis Chapman, Rich Mullens, Chris Rice and Michael W. Smith. These singer-songwriters had an ability to craft their lyrics in ways that were intriguing and met the listener where they lived.
Despite his heartfelt desire to serve God in holiness, Lee struggled with overcoming sin in his life. After years of failing to live a holy life, Lee came to his darkest point when he suffered through a divorce, job loss, financial collapse and the loss of his sister to cancer. At the point of decision, he knew he must decide between giving up or continuing to fight. That is when Lee decided to give up. For twenty-four years he had fought sin with no success and so, at the end of himself, he decided his only hope was to get out of God's way and trust Him for his righteousness.
Through the struggles Lee has faced in recent years, his lyrics have become increasingly more heartfelt and hopeful. His descriptive lyrics and vocal styling captures the listener painting vivid images which proclaim the loving nature of God. Always hopeful, always pointing toward heaven, Lee's songs are a call to worship and chronicle the many different revelations of God's character Lee has discovered over the past few years.
In addition to his many musical talents which include, vocalist, pianist, drummer, acoustic guitarist and songwriter, Lee is also a preacher and author. His blog, Square Watermelons is written to help men struggling with failure learn how to let God do what they cannot.
