Ask people to describe Stephanie and you’ll hear words like gifted, anointed, strong, loving and joyful, but the title of her new album offers an especially apt description of the artist—Beautiful. However, Stephanie sees it as more than the title of her new album, but an appeal for woman to truly embrace that they are beautiful.
“I struggled for many years regarding my worth and my value. Since I was a teenager, I have always been overweight; I never saw myself as beautiful. I always looked at myself as being less than acceptable. I want so desperately for my listeners who have struggled with these same issues I struggled with to be free, says Stephanie. “Whether or not you feel beautiful, the face of the matter is that you are - Beautiful.
“Beautiful - Songs To Change Your World” brings tears to her eyes, because she can remember the emotional abuse that she suffered from her first husband. During that dark time in her life, she remembers the countless times she was cheated on by her ex husband with other women. Stephanie remembers the pain of being married to someone and wanted to have a child, but not being able to and yet seeing child after child being born by her my ex-husband through other women during their marriage. Stephanie explains, “It was a living hell.”
Since then, Stephanie has let the past go. She married an amazing man of God who is a Pastor in 2002. The very next year God blessed her and her husband with a son named, Isaiah. She has lost over 100 lbs and has chosen to move forward and develop a successful recording career. Her mission in life is to inspire women everywhere to be healed from their past and to reach for their dreams.
This album is a stunning collection of songs filled with energy and passion all driven by her amazingly powerful voice. “This album is a collage of emotional experiences I had during the past few years,” she states. “The difference with this album is that God was able to heal my broken heart and deliver me from fear through the outlet of music. Each song that I wrote is a personal depiction of the various spiritual stages God walked me through. I feel like I’m definitely walking in a new level of freedom. I’m walking with more authority because this album reflects my life.”
Stephanie’s new found confidence manifested itself in her songwriting, and she penned all of the 10 songs on the “Beautiful - Songs To Change Your World” Double CD album. “I feel like I’m in a new place,” she says. “My desire for this project is to help people experience a closer connection with God, that is why I decided to add a second CD called “Meditations Prayer CD. This CD was created specifically to help people develop the habit of entering into the presence of God through prayer on a regular basis. As the music plays, I gently guide them into prayer and listening to the voice of God.”
Singing is nothing new to Stephanie. She has been in the music and performance industry for more than a decade. Stephanie has been featured in everything from television to live stage musicals. As a matter of fact, she was a two time winner on the hit television show, "Big Break" hosted by Natalie Cole
With experiences such as the lead role in the "Wiz" as Dorothy and the opening act for Multi-Stellar Award Winner Vickie Winans, Grammy Nominee Helen Baylor, and Grammy Award Winner Nancy Wilson, Stephanie Martin has touched millions of lives with her gift and ability to encourage, uplift with her anointed songs of praise and worship.
With her new album Beautiful – Songs To Change Your World, Stephanie serves up a musically inventive, lyrically potent collection of songs that are all drawn from a deep emotional well. “Winner” is among the most personal tunes. “This song was written shortly after I had tried out for the television show, Sundays Best. I really didn’t think at the time I would have been affected by not being selected, but I guess there was something inside of me that I had not released to God fully. I think it was a spirit of rejection. I remember when I returned home from Chicago, I experienced a severe state of depression. Here I was in the middle of recording this amazing album and I found myself not wanting to get out of bed. I was so depressed, I felt so hopeless. I didn’t want to write and I didn’t’ want anyone to see me. It was a horrible time in my life. The song, Winner, was written on the same day God delivered me personally from the spirit of depression. No one came to lay hands on me or prayed for me, I remember I got up off my bed and began to pray in the spirit and all of a sudden that tormenting spirit of depression broke off me. When that happened, I ran to my closet, grabbed my notepad and started writing this song. It was amazing because the words just began to flow.”
“Enter In”, was a song inspired by my discovering – the secret place. This secret place was a place that I found literally in my closet. I would go there to talk to God and he would talk back to me. This is the place that I discovered God’s healing and transforming power. “Enter In” is a song that invites anyone to go to that secret place and be alone with God. I love this song because it removes all excuses that people have. The Bible clearly says that we can go boldly to the throne of God and let Him know what we need.
Talented, transparent, loving and bold, Stephanie is the kind of person everyone wants in their life and her music has taken root in the hearts of people around the world. As she shares this new collection of songs, she’s grateful for the platform she has been given and is aware of the responsibility it brings. “If my music is just entertaining, then that’s just not good enough for me. I want my music to be anointed, life changing and the bridge that build hope for all people to be connected to God.”
It’s that attitude that has made Stephanie beautiful and she revels in the opportunity to remind others that they are beautiful too.
