We are The StoneCoats an Indie Rock band from Brandon, MS, which all began two years ago this past October when two brothers and a best friend got together with a passion for music and a passion to change the world for the better. Our members consist of Brannon Barnett age 25, lead guitarist/vocals, Carson Bristow age 18, lead guitarist/rhythm guitarist, Leighton Bristow age 19, drummer/bassist, Ashten Frisella age 21, bassist, and Sam Reed age 20, lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist.
There have been some changes along the way. Leighton moved from bass to drums in June of 2013 having never played drums before, and our friend, Ashten Fisella, replaced him on bass. Also, Sam Reed is back permantently singing vocals, after taking last year off for film school. We took two months off this summer and worked on writing songs. All of this led to a new EP entitled “Change,” and seven new songs posted on our media page and on Reverbnation.
We are very humbled and fortunate to have had such a great first year. We played all over the state of Mississippi including Ground Zero in Clarksdale, MS. We have been building a steady fan base and are thrilled when we get invited back to play a venue we previously played and people are there to see us wanting more. Our song, “When You’re Down,” was chosen by Butterflies Radio to be put in rotation play and highlighted in one of their Monday night segments of up and coming artist to watch for. Sam Reed actually filmed and directed the video that went with it. We put it together, filmed it in a day, and it was chosen by Beat 100 as one of the staffs favorites and won awards for songwriting. Rob Daily at Daily Unsigned chose our band from Reverbnation to be featured by him. Also Carson, who is only 17, was chosen to attend a workshop with the Burnside brothers and Luther Dickinson and got to play on stage with them at the North Mississippi Hill Country Festival. We have had several press articles written about us, the Jackson Free Press being one such newspaper. All of this has been an honor, and we are always humbled when our work is noticed.
We love all genres of music and can play all genres of music, but right now our music kind of has a sound all its own. We start playing, the magic just happens, and the lyrics start flowing. These songs were all written in June of this year over a period of two weeks by the three of us.
Where does this year take us? We know back to playing shows and being on stage because that is where we feel at home. We consider ourselves Modern Day Renaissance Men and southern gentlemen. We work hard and are dedicated to what we do. When the time is right, we hope to take all of this to the world stage and hopefully help change the world for the better. Whatever happens, forty years from now we will be able to say we followed our dreams, our passions, and gave it our all. Visit our webpage to learn more about us. www.thestonecoats.com.
