Carrie Jackson………a New York/New Jersey based jazz vocal stylist rekindles thoughts of America's great jazz history, and attributes her vocal style of singing to her mentors and takes great pride in the Great Ladies of Jazz, Sarah "Sassy" Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Nancy Wilson, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Carmen Mc Rae, just to name a few. She has taken all of her mentors and made them a part of her and brings new horizons to this classical art form called Jazz, the truth is that she has a bit of all of them and more that is uniquely her own style. Carrie hails from Newark, NJ and began her musical career at the tender age of 6 years old singing in the children’s and young adult Choir’s.
Carrie studied piano and voice with Howard “Duke” Anderson, teacher, composer and arranger. She was Duke’s protégé and as a young adult worked with the Duke Anderson Big Band. She also studied voice under the tutelage of with Inez Mc Clendon, Nadine Herman and Winston Hughes. Her voice training and natural talents are evident providing for classical performance in cabaret, jazz favorites, soulful sultry pop, blues, and poignant, mellow gospel.
She has a voice that is smooth sultry, and soulful a sound that has captivated thousands and takes the audience by storm with its many improvisational nuances rekindles thoughts of America's great jazz history. Carrie proudly carries the jazz banner with her own enchanting style. Carrie’s spontaneous interplay with her band-mates creates a unique and captivating ensemble….
Carrie has been hailed a "Diva," as principal performer in Thomas ‘Fats’ Waller’s Musical Production, "Ain't Misbehavin,” off Broadway, NYC, a 8 week run, a principal performer in Musical “49th Street Jazz, NYC, and a principle performer in Musical, ‘Nunsense”, Cape May, Jazz Festival, Sanofi-Aventis Jazz Festival, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, “Sounds of the City” Newark, NJ, Myrtle Beach Jazz Festival, Red Bank Jazz Fest, and Top Jazz Clubs in NYC including a 3 day Concert Series at Birdland, November 22, 23, 24, 2011, Jazz Standard, Iridium, 55 Bar, Lenox Lounge, Smokes, also touring in the USA, and abroad .
