Since forming in early 2013, the Folk-Rock band Scary Little Friends has quickly risen up in the Bay Area music scene, performing with Folkyeah! and Loving Cup Productions, as well as playing major Santa Cruz shows at the Rio Theatre, Don Quixote’s, Moe’s Alley, Fernwood (Big Sur )and San Francisco shows headlining at the Bottom of the Hill, Brick and Morter Music Hall, and the Boom Boom Room. The band has shared the stage with national touring acts such as Norah Jones during a surprise visit to the Santa Cruz, the Stone Foxes, Caravan Palace, Chuck Prophet, the General Baptists, Debauche, and Terrapin Crossroads favorites Grahame Lesh and Acacia.
Scary Little Friends is the brainchild of Chris Jones (vocals, lead guitar) with Charlie Knote on drums, Jon Payne on bass, and whoever else the bands summons to play with them on any given night. Chris built his own studio in the Mission district of San Francisco especially for recording their debut album “From the Beginning”, which features lilting vocals, ala Jeff Buckley, and surfs-up psychedelic guitars, which are a trademark of the "San Francisco Sound". Based in both Santa Cruz and San Francisco with underlying Southern roots, strong songwriting is really the bread and butter of this "indie/folk rock" band. Scary Little Friend's live shows are intense journeys through the most intimate parts of the collective conscious which resonates true through every listener imaginable. They mix sophistication and accessibility to make a brew that is never pretentious, never smooth. Always raw and real.
