Delaware has never been known for bringing out young bands trying to gain recognition, but until now none have broken out as well as Dover’s Awake At Last. Falling on the more progressive side of the rock world, the four-piece draws influence from bands like The Used and rock bands like Saosin. Awake At Last has found an aggressive blend of radio rock and pop melodies that create a whirlwind of emotion and with a live energy that matches the high energy of their recordings, AAL aims to travel the world playing unforgettable shows and captivate their fans.
Formed in 2011, Awake At Last -- featuring vocalist Vincent Torres, guitarist Eric Blackway, bassist Tyler Greene, and drummer Bryan Mills – continues to bring a fresh sound to the Delaware music scene. Vincent Torres comments, “Some kids will only listen to a specific genre or a specific band, but for the most part the public just likes good live music and can make the best of whatever situation.” Being a band with a solid sound has helped boost AAL’s overall recognition and has ranked them as Dover’s number one rock group on Reverbnation charts. “We've played some local shows for our local crowd where the venue is packed wall to wall and it's amazing. It all about making connections with our fans” explains guitarist Eric Blackway. Since the bands formation they have been on four east coast tours, one nationwide tour, and have played such festivals as SXSW, Heart of Texas Rock Fest, and Launch Music Festival, joining the stage with acts including Life On Repeat (Equal Vision Records), Us From Outside (Tragic Hero Records), and Life As A Ghost (Eulogy Records).
In late 2011, the band met with producer Will Donnelly in MD-based Oceanic Recording Studios [Life On Repeat, Sky Eats Airplane, Of Legends] to record their self-titled five song EP, Awake At Last, which was released in September of 2011. The album earned an overwhelming positive response, quickly becoming the talk of the town and inspiring Delaware’s Dover Post writer, Andre Lamar, to write an article on the band spotlighting lead singer Vincent Torres. Over a year later the band returned to the studio with a new up and coming producer, Evan Myers [Willpowerless and A Caffeine Dream], to record their December 2012 release Mansion Of Memories.
Awake At Last strives to create music that speaks to he human condition of beauty, pain, and hardships. “Mansion Of Memories was written in a dark time for the band so it has a darker approach, but retains an overall positive message we try to relay in all of our songs,” Torres comments. The passion for their lyrics also bleeds into the music creation as well. “Everyone brings something different to the table because we come from different musical backgrounds and lifestyles” explains bassist Tyler Greene, but through all their differences they all share the same goal of writing strong and energetic rock and metal influenced songs with contributions from each band member. “When we write music, usually a band member will come to rehearsal with a riff or chord progression they had been working on and as a band we all take turns throwing out ideas and slowly forming the foundation, later adding little transitions and sound tags" explains drummer Bryan Mills.
Awake At Last continues to spread their message through music that no matter who you are or what life you live, dreams are never as far away as the world may make them seem. Vincent, Eric, Bryan, and Tyler all bring elements of great, entertaining, and catchy rock songs to bring fans and loved ones closer, and to share their music and experiences with anyone willing to listen.
