"Bubble gum chewin’, guitar pickin’, Stay at Home Mama" turns songwriter after bath time. Ashley Dawn “The Artist” is the creative and musically artistic side of a woman that during the day bleaches socks and grocery shops. An American Folk Rock Singer/Songwriter...reminiscent of Jewel meets Alanis Morisette. The sound is real, solid and her songs have simple and honest lyrics with beauty and truth in the vocals. She delivers a performance that can silence a room and with an electric smile and striking personality, it only adds to the persona of this talented singer/songwriter mom.
Ashley Dawn was born and raised in Brigham City, Utah by her single dad and grandma Char. She could always be found dancing and singing in her grandma’s driveway listening to Randy Travis on her toy cassette player. At 7 years old, she took piano lessons from a neighbor and enjoyed watching her grandpa perform “Please Release Me” on his Wurlitzer Organ.
Ashley picked up the guitar (Thanks to her dad!) and by age 14 was playing in the band at school and performing at small venues in front of family and friends.
She was 15 when she moved from her home in Utah to Florida to finish high school and live with her mom. Now this is where the songwriting really begins….At 16 yrs old her first love fell apart and the loneliness of being in a new school opened a faucet of emotions and soon stories and lyrics started to develop.
Since that time, Ashley Dawn has continued to write, develop her craft and perform on stage. She has performed at numerous venues throughout the years i.e. festivals, coffee shops, house concerts etc. selling her homemade recordings. Her favorite venue has always been the Silvermoon Bar in Orange Beach, Alabama until it closed it’s doors a few years ago.
In 2009 she was asked to be a guest songwriter at the 25th Annual Frank Brown Songwriters Festival in Orange Beach, Alabama. Around that same time, she became a member of the NSAI. The song evaluations and personal relationships resulting from her association with the NSAI have proven invaluable. She has enjoyed meeting other writers and artists and has found some lifelong friends who share the passion of songwriting and music.
In September of 2012 Ashley Dawn was selected by the Nashville Songwriters Association International as the new Coordinator of the Atmore/Brewton Region Chapter. She is also writing and mentoring other young songwriters during the day and performing on the weekends.
She currently lives in Nashville, TN with her husband and children. In between bleaching socks and grocery shopping, she is also working on her first album with Anthony Crawford, guitarist for Neil Young and Dwight Yoakum.
Supermom by day, Songwriter by night…
