Sisters Makenna Davenport, age 20, and Shelby Carper, age 17, make up rising country music duo Makenna & Shelby. Born in Lebanon, Ohio, they grew up with strong influences of music from their family. After growing up with interests in music and performing, they decided to start singing together. They then started performing as guest artists with some of the best country bands in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, performing covers of some of the biggest hits in country music, past and present. During this time, they began focusing on writing their own songs, inspired by the sounds of the classics while boasting new and unique melodies. They knew the importance of being well-rounded artists and taught themselves how to play the guitar and piano. The next step was to form their own band and they found some of the best musicians in Ohio to take along for the ride. As guest artists and with their own band, they have performed on many stages across the tri-state area including the former famed Little Nashville Opry. They have also competed in the Texaco Country Showdown, advancing to the state round twice. After recording a CD of cover songs a couple years ago, they are working on recording many of their original songs that they hope to release to the public in 2012. Makenna & Shelby are thankful to be able to do what they love and believe in giving back as well. They frequently perform at Relay for Life events and successfully planned and hosted “Jammin’ 4 Jamaica”, a charity event for Make-A-Wish Foundation. The time is now for Makenna, a student at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, and Shelby, a student at Lebanon High School, to turn their dreams into reality.
