Victor H. Nelson, Jr. better known simply as VICTOR, is a fourth generation talent in a family with a rich and varied background in musical performance. Considering that his great grandfather was a professional jazz musician, his grandfather a classical pianist, and his father a doo-wop singer, it is clear there was no shortage of inspiration in his household. Born in Hartford, Conn., the only child of a military family, he traveled much of the world before they would settle for good in Richmond, Va. when he was 10 years old.
He was the lead vocalist, keyboardist and founding member of Tomorrows Promise or The Promise Band, as they came to be known, which played the Richmond ,Va. music circuit in the late 80's and early 90's. The band took second place in the cities battle of the bands in 1990. They would go their separate ways in 1991. Soon after he, with Joel Todd his piano classmate from VSU, formed TRU IMAGE a harmony vocal group which placed in many talent contest in the DC area. They were signed to Charm City Records ( A division of Solar ) in 1993 and began recording their debut album. As fortune would have it, relations with Charm City would dissolve and the album Truly Imaginable was never released. The group soon also dissolved and went their separate ways, but Victor would include many songs from that album on both of his future solo releases.
In 2005 he released his eponymous debut album independently and also co-produced local artist, Yvette Soul's eponymous EP through his company, 2GetherWorks Entertainment Group, which he co-owns with long time friend J.C. Williams. In 2010 his second solo album "Transparent" was released. The song "Occasionally", a duet with Jamela Bullock reached as high as number 2 on soul charts in the UK. The next year he released The RAYVN Project vol. I, along with songwriter/producer Raye Smith, that also received a fair amount of airplay in the UK. Last year (2012) he stepped back into performing in the local music scene as a solo artist, with gospel group In Due Season, as cast member of Recapture the Memories Tribute Show and currently he fronts Casper Band. He has produced and appeared on tracks for local rap artists, done musical scores for short independent films and videos, as well as designed cover artwork and continues writing and recording for his third independent solo release.
