The "A FREE MAMA" project was born in April 2011 in Florence, Italy. Initially formed by Alessandro Gerini (vocals), Lorenzo Ruggeri (guitar), Luca Giachi (bass), Emanuele Bonechi (drums), the band completed their formation with a 2 brass section, with Leandro Giordani (alto sax) and Leonardo Beltramini (tenor sax) (replaced by Giacomo Petrucci in January 2014).
After a few months spent together, playing and grooving all the day, searching a fluid and cohesive sound, mixing the different influences of each one, in November 2011 they recorded their first EP, consisting of 3 songs (included "Mother's Song", the first hit of the band), at the SonicStudio, Florence (IT). Beginning to perform in some of the most important clubs (but, obviously, in some which are not really famous!) and participating to local and national band contest, they start to have their first successes. Winning all of the contest they had participated (like B-Live Music Contest, "All The Rock 2012", etc...), they received good responses from audience and critics.
In July 2012 they have participated to the "Rock For Life 2012" Festival, sharing the stage with Marco di Maggio Connection, one of the greatest rockabilly/surf/fusion band in the world, and "Nobraino", a famous italian band.
In August 2012 they have opened the show for Vallanzaska, a famous ska/reggae italian band.
In September 2012 they have started to record their first album, completely self, to the "Larione 10" Studio in Florence, Italy.
The album has released the 27 of December 2012, under CREATIVE COMMONS license.
In May of 2013 they did a 12 gigs tour around UK, playing in many venues in Nottingham, Warsop, Lincoln, Ipswich.
On the 5,6,7th of July 2013 they attended the slovenian "Rock Otocec" Festival.
Stay tuned, keep groovin', stay MAMA'S!!!!
