Sellenium / Bio

History shows that brothers and bands are more often than not a volatile mix. However, SELLENIUM, Skelmersdale’s Alternative-rock combo, boasts two sets of brothers; Paul McHale – Vocals, Frank McHale – Guitars, Geoff Beech – Bass and Ian Beech – Drums, and Sellenium are old enough and wise enough to know how to channel such tensions into a creative powerhouse of sound.

Sellenium formed in the early 90s and enjoyed much success in and around the Lancashire/Manchester/Merseyside circuit. The band went their separate ways in 1996 to concentrate of their own professional careers. However, having so much unrecorded material that lay shelved for the best part of 15 years, Sellenium reformed in 2010 and embarked on a project of recording and cataloguing their existing songs, giving no thought to writing new material and with no intention of playing live.

The inevitable, of course, soon happened and in next to no time the band were writing new songs that would appeal to the tastes of today’s audiences. Predictably the thrill of playing live also proved too much to resist and the band were once again playing to intimate rooms and packed festivals on the local circuit, their totally unpredictable live performances making them the must see local band of 2011.

September 2011 saw the release of Sellenium’s debut album 'The Horror, the Thriller & the Love' and the band launched their album to a capacity crowd – they were back and better than ever!
'The Horror, the Thriller & the Love' is an eclectic mix of tight melodic beats spiced with chaotic guitar lines and driving vocals which are at the heart of the Sellenium brand of alt-rock creating searing heart felt songs and unforgettable choruses.

All eight tracks are written by Sellenium and recorded, engineered and mixed by Guitarist, Frank McHale. The band felt the only way to achieve the unpolished and unrestrained sound that truly represents their music was to record and produce the entire album themselves. The disc is a nod to both old and new material. The oldest tracks “Nothing to Me”, “Human Element” and the penultimate track “Eyesore” having been penned over 15 years ago. Despite this the seamless way in which old and new songs nestle together is commendable. The older tracks, forged in the post-Nirvana grunge years, echo the bands many influences with shades of early U2, Pearl Jam, Zappa and Nick Cave, whilst the new material oozes with an expectation that new and exciting things are soon to follow!
