The Jacks are a classic or roots rock band based out of Vero Beach, Florida.
Craig Bowers-vocals, guitar; mandolin and harmonica Ed Karwatske- keyboards, Sam Masiello- bass, vocals and percussion. And Kevin Emerald- drums, steel drums, guitar and vocals.
The Jacks are definitely the little band with the big sound.
With Sam playing bass and singing, Kevin laying down powerful drums and percussion as well as strong tenor harmonies, Ed playing synthesized horns and strings and at the same time laying down a B3 organ track and Craig’s powerful vocal and singing guitar lines- it sounds like a 10 piece band.
From Eric Claptons ‘Crossroads’ to Cameos funky ‘Word Up’ they will rock the house.
Their serious credentials (see below) give them serious chops.
Not too many bands can segue from John Mayers ‘Waitin’ on the World’ to Steely Dan’s
‘Pretzel Logic’ to Steve Ray Vaughns driving shuffle ‘Cold Shot’.
The Beatles, Rolling Stones, BeeGees, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Buffet, Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, Earth Wind and Fire, George Benson, The Band, etc,.
Their classic song list is as long and eclectic as their individual credentials would suggest. If it was popular in the last fifty years The Jacks can probably play it.
Ed Karwatske made his living as a professional musician and keyboardist for many years in New Jersey before moving to Florida. Since then, he has had the pleasure of performing and playing keyboards at Florida’s most prestigious resort destinations and hotels, including DisneyWorld, Universal Studios and SeaWorld. During his career at DisneyWorld, he has played the national conventions for every major corporation in America, along with being in the house band at Margharitaville in Universal Studios for 2 years. Having played in varying types of bands ranging from classic Rock and Roll to Jimmy Buffet tribute bands (Ed has played on stage with Jimmy Buffet several times) he is well versed in all types of music and entertainment. Currently living in Vero Beach, FL, Ed has joined with long time friends Sam and Craig to form ‘The Jacks’.
Hailing from Trenton, New Jersey, Sam Masiello attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In his career he’s played and recorded with such notables as Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora and jazz great Richie Cole.
He performed in the off-Broadway show ,"The Conjuror" in NYC directed by Tom O'Horgan of Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar fame.
After moving to Florida, Sam along with Ed co-founded The Landsharks playing all the major theme parks in the Orlando area.
He has opened for Jimmy Buffett, David Johannsen and Tommy James.
Craig Bowers, vocalist and guitarist for The Jacks, has been a familiar presence on the Florida music scene for many years. A self-taught musician Craig started playing professionally at age 14 and by the time he was 16 he was playing the east coast of Florida from Jacksonville Beach down to Coconut Grove.
In the Seventies after a stint taking over the guitar postion vacated by Duane Allman with Knoxville blues band William and the Stereos he opened for all the top acts of the era including: Buddy Miles and Electric Flag; Canned Heat; Procul Harum (Whiter Shade of Pale); The Allman Brothers Band; Moby Grape; The Yardbirds;
Steam ( Na,Na,Hey,Hey Goodbye) ; Edgar Winter Group and more.
Craig formed Streettalk in the 80’s and played all the local night spots.
He met Ed and Sam when they all played at Veros premier watering hole, Marvin Gardens, jamming together on several occasions.
In the 90’s Craig recorded 2 CD’s of his own music with the blues band Madcow.
His original songs have been covered by other Florida based bands like Rose Hill and The Walter Reed Band.
Also in the 90’s Ed, Sam and Craig put together a beach music group called Filet of Soul
playing as house band at Capt.Hirams and were in demand on the private party circuit.
Kevin Emerald- One of the founding members of The Landsharks Band Kevin grew up in heavy metal cover bands. A stint on a cruise ship playing for sunburned tourists added steel drums or ‘pans’ to his arsenal. After a brief segue into solo guitar work the 24/7 call of Sin City beckoned and it was Viva Las Vegas where he performed everywhere up and down the strip. A reunion with old band mates Sam and Ed led to a jam and Kevin was in.
The Jacks are players, players. The ones that other musicians go to see.
Whatever your preferences they can definitely ‘Bring it’.
If you’re planning a good time, The Jacks are a Party of Four.
