What do you get when you mix the sounds of a guitar ace, a funk-soul ivory songster, a latin-jazz slip horn master of scat, and a drumming jack-of-all-trades with the hypnotic grooves of a Puerto Rican dance queen? None other than the musical stylings of Mezcolanza. Mezcolanza, meaning "hodgepodge" in Spanish, began as a musical experiment for leading lady, Jasmine Quintana. After studying dance forms from all over the world and singing at one of Chicago's top jazz clubs, she decided combine her love for world culture with her love for music.
Drummer Collin Nordine and trombonist Maurice Cade readily jumped on board, soon followed by bassist Luc Parcell. With a such an ethnically diverse mix of musicians with a wide range of musical styles, the name Mezcolanza immediately took root.
Mezcolanza's sound is heavily influenced by Brazilian, Caribbean and Latin American rhythms but layers jazz, house and funk melodies to create a lively yet laid-back vibe. Innovative and infectious, Mezcolanza will take you to a whole new musical realm. Let the ritmo move you!
