17yr old Cairns singer/songwriter Ray-Lee has been singing since she could talk, was playing piano at 7, and taught herself to play guitar at 13.
Her debut EP ‘Life Is Different’ was released in December 2011 with several tracks shortlisted for the Australian Songwriters Contest, “Starting Line” finishing in the Top 10 of the Youth category.
Drawing on influences such as Julia Stone and Emma Louise, Ray-Lee has been performing her originals at local venues for the past few years gathering a collection of talent and songwriter awards; and has been spreading her wings across Australia and overseas including an appearance at the Relay for Life concert in Melbourne and performing in Hollywood USA. Ray-Lee enjoys busking around Cairns and often donates her busking money to various charities including Relay for Life, Cyclone Yasi and the Qld Flood Appeal and has also donated her time to perform at Pink Ribbon and Relay for Life events.
Highlights from Ray-Lee’s musical career so far include: performing live to air on Hot FM, Zinc 102.7, ABC radio & Community Radio 89.1FM Cairns; being a finalist in Cairns has Got Talent 2011 & 2012 and also a finalist in the 2010 Cairns Festival Street Buskers competition; winning the 2011 Amateurs Cairns heat of Port Douglas Carnival songwriters comp; performing in the Cairns Folk n Roots evening and performing with artists such as Emma Louise, Adam Hynes & Kathryn Hartnett and support act for Stan Walker and Frank Turner. Ray-Lee is honoured to be part of the 2012 Australian Team who competed in the World Championships of Performing Arts in July 2012. Ray-Lee was awarded 2 Silver Medals and 2 Bronze Medals in various Self Accompanied Vocal sections.
Ray-Lee regularly performs in Cairns and far north Queensland, including Heyday Festival in Cairns and Tableland Folk Festival in Yungaburra.
