Good friends for several years and sharing roles in mutual bands, Jon Crandall, McKenna Mackie, Matt Tamisin and Wade Gunter felt compelled to play music together and to start a new band unlike what they had done before. TaterZandra broke into the Athens music scene in the summer of 2011. Since inception, they have been a constant presence playing shows, appearing on compilations (Wuxtry, Gumball, Athens Intensified, Occupy Athens) and playing festivals. They released their debut album Nom de Plume in June 2013. They've attracted local and regional fans via their widened sonorous explosions.
TaterZandra plays moody, melodic and angular post-post-punk. The music tends to force you on a journey that is both multi-dimensional and constantly in flux. This experimental band cites some of its influences as Sonic Youth, Unwound and Blonde Redhead. The band name is derived from the nickname of an influential and inspiring person in McKenna’s life. TaterZandra writes a cohesive alignment of diverse compositions. The music is congealed into one big awesome mess of a sound. It’s like fish tank fodder, crying petunias and bloody pillow fights taking over the world!
TaterZandra is currently in rotation on WUOG 90.5 fm in Athens, GA. They are also receiving airplay on 88.5 WRAS in Atlanta, GA, WPPP 100.7 in Athens, GA as well as having been played on "Just Off The Radar" on NPR.
