Tropic Of Cancer / Bio

Beginning in 2000 Tropic Of Cancer* (led by Jason Lewis on guitar, bass and percussion, the amazing Brian Hicks on flute, saxophone and percussion and the enigmatic Colin Westcott on drums) has performed all original instrumental compositions, incorporating a mix of Jazz, Latin, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean sounds into something that can only be described as "New World Lounge". Tropic of Cancer suffered a terrible loss in 2010 when Brian Hicks died of cancer. After a short time, Tropic picked up the pieces and moved forward with the best of the past and something new featuring the additions of Ryan Sinclair on percussion, Sean Hendrix on the Vibraphones, Saxaphonist Eric Reihm and the return of guitarist Dimitri Kavalieros to the lineup. Tropic has had an incredible year in 2011, Releasing the a new cd "INDIA" garnering "Top 10 local albums of 2011" from the Florida Times-Union, performing at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival and numerous performances in the Jacksonville area including the upcoming Blackwater Music Festival in September. Tropic will be playing more shows both locally and beyond, recording more music and being happy...

*over the years Tropic Of Cancer also included full time members Jay Peele, Chris Gibbs, Chris Spohn, and Theo Klaase at different and overlapping junctures. It also included many guest musicians who played quite frequently with Tropic, including Dan Brown, Ed Richardson, Dan Shelton, Jeff Mclaughlin, Rebecca Zapen, Joe Yorio, Rachael Levin, and Sienna Joy Poulard in no particular order.
