Doni is an accomplished musician, poet, songwriter, and singer, and has performed at countless venues
nationwide. He made his debut television performance at age eight after winning a hometown talent show.
Doni was as a winner on the Nashville Networks "You Can Be A Star" and "Be A Star" talent shows.
These performances were broadcast worldwide to an audience of over thirty million viewers, and resulted in
correspondence and accolades from fans all over the globe, as well as song downloads and record sales.
From the mid 70's through the early 80's, The Doni Helms Band traveled all over the U.S. playing at countless
clubs, fairs, stadiums, and backyards. Doni's band traveled with The Highwaymen as the opening act on the
Thunder Across America tour, as well as did direct tour support for hundreds of national recording artists
including Chubby Checker, The Box Tops, Three Dog Night, Gary US Bond, Jackson Brown, The Tams, Barbara Mandel,
Wet Willy, Billy Joe Royal, Rare Earth, and many more.
In the early 90s, Doni wrote, produced, and recorded eleven original songs on a CD collection released by
Little Tree Records, titled Southland Lady. Two of the songs on this CD claimed and held the coveted number
one spot on the MP3.com country music charts for over 5 months, and received wide-spread air play and critical
acclaim from numerous media outlets, as well as record industry chart-makers.
Doni has performed all around the greater Atlanta area with a group of friends, formally known as Mid-Life Crisis,
and is currently working on his second CD release entitled "Next Time Around". The Southland Lady CD is a
compilation of songs that tell about love lost, love found, and love rediscovered. Little Tree has re-mastered
and re-released Southland Lady and has added two new bonus tracks.
