Meyer Fenig

I once met a man, Meyer Fenig was his name.
in Hospital Beds we both lived in pain.
For ten days and nights he told me of his life
and I was changed forever more

Chorus-
Oh I was changed forever more
I met the guardian of my door
Meyer Fenig was his name, I often say the same
when there is trouble in my life.

He was 19 years old, in Poland and a Jew
The love of his family, the only thing he knew
He joined the Polish Army in 1939
Then it started, World War II.

That Polish Army had only one small victory
Those German's marched right in, and killed so many
Meyer's leg was shot, they threw him in a train
and he was gone to Siberia

Living under branches, cutting tree by hand
Ten men a day, died in the frozen land
Five years he stayed, until a gamble that he played
He ran to find his family.

Traveling on top of rail cars, swimming frozen streams
He searched for his family, by any travel means.
Beaten and starved, when he finally made it home, he found his family was all gone.

Now Meyer was a man given one bad life, he did the best he could, he even found a wife. Bina was his gal and they had one great big dream. To find freedom in the USA.

I once met a man, Meyer Fenig was his name.
In hospital beds, we both lived in pain.
For ten days and nights, he told me of his life
and I was changed, forever more.
