As the front man for a group called Target in the late 70’s he released two albums on A&M Records,moved on to sing with Cobra on Epic Records in the early 80’s and by 1983 Jimi received an invitation to join Survivor, leading the band to numerous top ten songs, #1 videos and millions of cd sales.
Jimi performs back up vocals on recordings by ZZ Top, Joe Walsh and numerous other recording artists. Billy Gibbons refers to Jimi as the fourth member of ZZ Top and Casey Kasem, on his nationally syndicated radio show American Top 40, referred to Jimi Jamison as “The Voice.” Among Jamison’s best known performances are "Burning Heart", from the Rocky IV movie which hit #2 on the Billboard Charts, "High On You" (#8), and "The Search Is Over" (#4). He released several solo albums, When Love Comes Down-1991, Empires-1999.
Jimi cowrote and sang the theme, "I'm Always Here" for Baywatch
and reunited with Survivor in 2000 through the release of their new album Reach in 2006.

Working steadily since leaving Survivor In 2006 he released a new album called Crossroads Moment .
The album was voted #3 best release of the year in Europe and was released in the US in 2009.
British magazine Powerplay said “If you’re a fan of classic Survivor albums like When Seconds Count and Too Hot To Sleep you’ll love Crossroads Moment. German magazine Breakout chose the record as “Special tip of the Month” and wrote “Crossroads Moment is without a doubt the ultimate AOR/Melodic Rock record, the best thing which happened this year”. In 2011, Frontiers Records released the Jimi Jamison/Bobby Kimball (the lead singer of the band Toto) duet album.
