Chuck Hughes was an early adopter of the Chapman Stick Touchboard, purchasing Stick #182 in 1975 from Melody Music on S. Acoma St. in Denver. In 1976 he moved to Nederland, Co., renting a cabin where he was able to learn to play the Stick with the aid of lesson tutorials by mail from the Stick's inventor, Emmett Chapman. He played it solo and in duos and trios and then took an break during which time he played and wrote rockabilly/psychobilly music on guitar. In 2012 he has returned to the Stick to do a series of live performances and recordings. The recordings on this page were live duo recordings, with the exception of the songs that were recorded live at the Blue Note in Boulder, Co. Those songs feature Herb Avery on keys, and Larry Manzi on drums, in addition to Chuck playing Chapman Stick. Chuck currently still plays a 10 string Stick from 1980, serial number 608.
