Kelroy was formed in Chicago, IL in January 2007 by a group of friends who had played in previous bands together in Chicago’s local Spanish rock and Indie rock scenes since the late 90’s and early 00’s. Developing a local following since their formation, the band has played notable Chicago venues such as Metro, Double Door, Subterranean, Bottom Lounge, Main Stage, the Cubby Bear, and also the Milwuakee arts festival in Logan Square to name a few. In September 2009, Kelroy won 2nd place in the Chicago Battle of the Bands hosted at the Elbo Room. In March 2010 Kelroy opened for Butterfly Explosion at the Abbey Pub in Chicago. The band’s debut album, Bloodshot Hungry Paranoid, was released independently as a digital download in February 2010, available on the band’s website and through most digital music providers such as iTunes, Amazon, lala and emusic. Kelroys follow up album, Somewhere Renegade was released on Aug 2, 2011 on digital release and also can be found on iTunes, Amazon, emusic, and lala. Kelroy consists of Luis Crespo (vocals), Omar Castro (guitar, vocals), Jose Calvo (bass), Joel Gonzalez (drums, percussion) and Vince Panepinto (keyboards, trombone). Given the size and instrumentation of the band, their music uses a blend of sounds/genres including rock, alternative, jazz, blues and post-rock. The band’s sound is comparable to and influenced by Radiohead,,Sigur Ros, Blonde Redhead and Explosions in the Sky. Having all the components of a traditional rock group, Kelroy is more than just that. Guitars sound more like distress signals and woeful mournings. Keyboards and trombone thrown in, you'll come to find that Kelroy isn't just rock. We attempt to invoke mood, feeling, and always a train of thought. We're extremely passionate about the music we create and strive to be an original and thoughtful voice in the great musical vortex we're a part of.
