The CRY! Is a four-piece Rock 'n' Roll (Power-pop) band from Portland OR. With influences like The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, and The Sweet, the band has re-crafted the 2 min. pop song for a new generation. The CRY! effortlessly merges 50's style vocal harmonies, the jangle of 60's pop hooks and the glam-rock attitude of the 70's with the raw punkish emotion of the Portland (OR) street culture from which they emerged.
Founded in 2011, the band has experienced remarkable early success! The CRY!’s self-titled/self-produced debut album (released in Nov. 2011) has sold-out four initial pressings (CD&12"LP) and earned rave reviews from Rolling Stone, Maximum Rock’n’Roll and dozens of other industry sources worldwide.
While band-members are young (21-22 years old), The CRY! motto, “Never Suck,” has produced a professionalism, work ethic and sense-of-purpose typically seen in older well-seasoned acts. In two short years, the band's hard work, rare musical chemistry, upbeat energy, hooky songwriting, and “DO-IT-YOURSELF” attitude have garnered over 65,000 views on YouTube (all self produced), and 7,300 Facebook fans. Additionally, the band has earned (and maintained) #1 and top 25 rankings on ReverbNation’s local and national "Rock" charts respectively.
With over 150 shows and four tours (regional/national) completed since March or 2012, The CRY!'s live performances are tight, high-energy, and explosively fun! One recent reviewer, after seeing the band while on tour in Southern California, wrote: "These kids form Portland are pro's tearing though their hook-filled sets like an explosive wave of youthful sexually charged energy reminiscent of the glory days of rock 'n' roll!"
In February of 2013, the Mooster Records (Chicago) release of The CRY!’s “Discotheque” on 7” vinyl became the label’s fastest selling release to date! In November 2013 SP Records (Tokyo) will release another 2-track split on both CD and 7” vinyl. Additionally, the band has been featured on several compilation releases and most recently recorded “ELO Kiddies” for Zero Hour Records as part of the label’s upcoming Cheap Trick tribute release.
In August, 2013 The CRY! completed producing their second full-length (10-track) album. Slated for release by the end of the year, industry insiders who have critiqued the new material agree that the album is a groundbreaking and exciting follow-up to the bands critically acclaimed first effort. One label executive, after hearing a mix of the new album, summed up his critique in one word: "epic!"
